I have seen the try a chapter tag on booktube before and have always wanted to try it. I thought this could be a fun way to pick my TBR for next month! I have 5 books to try a chapter of and I will be categorizing it as follows:
I really enjoyed that first chapter and will be reading it in May!
or
I wasn’t really feeling that first chapter and may read it someday, but not in the near future..

The Swrod of Summer by Rick Riordan Chapter 1: 10 Pages
I chose this because I loved the Percy Jackson series when I read it many years ago, and I thought I would give another Riordan series a shot. Sadly, I didn’t really love the first chapter. I want the first chapter to really draw me in and get me excited for the book, but this one didn’t really do that for me. There is even mention of a character whom I loved from the Percy Jackson series, and I still wasn’t thrilled into wanting to continue. I think I just may not be in the mood for this at the moment, so I will be putting this in the maybe someday pile.

To All the Boys I’ve Loved Before by Jenny Han
Chapter 1: 6 Pages
Although six pages is not a lot, I am already enjoying it. I kind of want to keep reading this right now, but I will exercise some self-control and save it for May because this is going on my May TBR for sure. I don’t know how 6 pages already has me interested, but I am seeing some things and making some guesses of what’s going to happen next. I just can’t wait to find out if I’m right!

Scythe by Neal Shusterman
Chapter 1: 15 pages
I have heard a lot of great things about this book, and I am pleased to say chapter 1 did not disappoint. I really enjoyed it and this is another one that I just want to keep reading to see what comes next! Definitely May TBR!

Warrior of the Wild by Tricia Levenseller
Chapter 1: 21 pages
I really love Levenseller’s writing, so I have been excited to try this one. That first chapter was really great. I mean 20 pages is a lot to really dive in to, and the way that chapter ended had me so ready for more! May TBR!!

The City of Brass by S.A. Chakraborty
Chapter 1: 21pages
That was magical and filled with tons of culture and it was just one chapter! I already like our main character and am really excited to see where this story goes! May TBR!

So I decided to continue with four of the five books I tried a chapter of. I feel successful with that, and I am definitely in a reading mood after all those great first chapters. I think this might be something I continue with in the future, because it seems like a great idea to set myself up for a successful reading month. I will actually be reading things I’m excited for and I think I will really enjoy! Now the struggle of deciding which one to read first…
