Lowen Ashleigh is a struggling writer on the brink of financial ruin when she accepts the job offer of a lifetime. Jeremy Crawford, husband of bestselling author Verity Crawford, has hired Lowen to complete the remaining books in a successful series his injured wife is unable to finish.

Lowen arrives at the Crawford home, ready to sort through years of Verity’s notes and outlines, hoping to find enough material to get her started. What Lowen doesn’t expect to uncover in the chaotic office is an unfinished autobiography Verity never intended for anyone to read. Page after page of bone-chilling admissions, including Verity’s recollection of what really happened the day her daughter died.

Lowen decides to keep the manuscript hidden from Jeremy, knowing its contents would devastate the already grieving father. But as Lowen’s feelings for Jeremy begin to intensify, she recognizes all the ways she could benefit if he were to read his wife’s words. After all, no matter how devoted Jeremy is to his injured wife, a truth this horrifying would make it impossible for him to continue to love her.

Wow. I am blown away by this one. This was first romantic thriller, and I really enjoyed it! I first want to start with what I disliked, so the rest of this post can be all the reasons I loved this one.

The ending is what I wasn’t a big fan of. It was very open ended and left a lot for reader interpretation. Which I don’t really like. If i wanted to make up my own ending I would just write my own story.. 👀 (life spoiler?)

Aside from those like few pages, I was fully obsessed. Literally the first sentence had me engrossed. I don’t think I have ever read a story quite like that. I could not put this down. I had to know what was going to happen next. Each chapter end left you desperately needing the next chapter. It was dark and very twisted at some points, and I loved it. Some parts will literally shock you to your core and leave you struck.

The characters were SO complex. Fro the very beginning we are seeing so much of these people. They are laid bare before us to examine and form thoughts about them. Lowen is an author, which means a lot of us feel like we can relate to her. She is extremely introverted and definitely has some anxieties that she works to overcome throughout this book. Then Jeremy is a man who has been through unimaginable loss, yet still seems like he has room for love in his heart. We see a lot of character development from both of them. Then there is Verity… Another author who has written a disturbing autobiography that Lowen stumbles across. We get to see Verity’s whole adult life, with all of her thoughts and actions. Even though we don’t actually hear from her. All the character changes and revelations are exciting and make up a lot of the best parts of this book.

The romances were also a lot fun to read, because again they were extremely complex. There are bouts of obsession, love and hate. There are a few sex scenes, which is expected when you read an adult romance, especially Colleen Hoover. But it’s not at the level of a full on erotic novel, so if you can handle a few little scenes here and there it shouldn’t be too bad.

I also enjoyed the writing style and layout. We switch from chapters of Lowen doing her research, to chapter of Verity’s manuscript where there were so many things that I never saw coming. And I love to be on the edge of my seat. I always enjoy guessing what may come next, but some of this was so unexpected! Even though a lot of it was very dark and unimaginable, that really made it all the more fun to read. I will say if you think yourself faint of heart, or easily disturbed by awful things, don’t read this. But if it is something you can handle PLEASE read this.!! Just don’t read the last 6 or 7 pages. Let it end just how it is. Unless you like to be left slightly confused and questioning everything you just read.

If you have read this, let me know your thoughts on it! Or if you plan to read this, let me know! Thank you and Happy Reading 🖤

    • I have read A LOT of her books, and this is honestly one of my favorites. And I love all of her books. What are some good romantic thrillers you have read? This was my first, and it has me wanting to try some more!

    • Even with that ending,I think it was worth the read. And honestly if you just stop where the ending is and don’t read the extra part, you wont have to deal with the open ending thing.
