In the shocking finale to the bestselling series that began with Stalking Jack the Ripper, Audrey Rose and Thomas are on the hunt for the depraved, elusive killer known as the White City Devil. A deadly game of cat-and-mouse has them fighting to stay one step ahead of the brilliant serial killer—or see their fateful romance cut short by unspeakable tragedy.
Audrey Rose Wadsworth and Thomas Cresswell have landed in America, a bold, brash land unlike the genteel streets of London they knew. But like London, the city of Chicago hides its dark secrets well. When the two attend the spectacular World’s Fair, they find the once-in-a-lifetime event tainted with reports of missing people and unsolved murders.
Determined to help, Audrey Rose and Thomas begin their investigations, only to find themselves facing a serial killer unlike any they’ve heard of before. Identifying him is one thing, but capturing him—and getting dangerously lost in the infamous Murder Hotel he constructed as a terrifying torture device—is another.
Will Audrey Rose and Thomas see their last mystery to the end—together and in love—or will their fortunes finally run out when their most depraved adversary makes one final, devastating kill?
What an ending to an amazing series! This series has been a wild ride and I’m so sad it’s over. These characters hold a special place in my heart. I love that Audrey rose stands up for herself and other women during a time when not many do. She’s headstrong and is trying to pave the way for other women to step up and be more than what society says they can be. I love that Thomas supports her in literally everything she does, while also being the cocky little know-it-all you can’t help but adore. Plus the love between these characters is so pure and he build up to their relationship was paced so well. I found the whole love story aspect very endearing. They are also a couple of kick-ass investigators!
This finale is set during one of my favorite historical events: the Chicago Worlds Fair and Exposition. They actually talk about Nikola Tesla and describe the beauty that was the white city in the late late 1800’s!! I love this era and really enjoy stories about the Chicago Worlds Fair.
The duo is trying to find the “Devil of the white city,” who was a serial killer in Chicago during the Worlds Fair and it was the most suspenseful and twisted book of the whole series. I really just loved the plot so much and it was made all the more fun by my prior knowledge and fascination with the setting and time period.
Maniscalco ties in things from all of the previous books and everything comes full circle. Truths are revealed and no secrets are left untold by the end of this truly epic saga. This was honestly everything I needed and more. I am extremely satisfied with the ending, even if it is bittersweet for it to be over. If you haven’t picked this series up yet, I highly recommend you give it a shot!
Sorry this review is so short, but I feel like I say the same thing about each of these books and I am sure you are all tired of hearing how much I love it over and over. Just know this whole series is 5/5 stars and I adore it. Thanks for checking out this review. Happy Reading 🖤
I’ve read the first two books in this series (and loved them), but I haven’t gotten the last two books yet. I’m glad to hear you loved them, because not all series are capable of finishing out strongly. I’m really looking forward to reading them.

I agree that so many series flop in the end! This one most definitely did not. It wrapped up beautifully. I hope you enjoy it!
